What's New ... Scott's work on improving Arctic governance published in Polar Research Journal

2014.08.12. Scott has written a paper together with Eric Sjöberg (Assist. Prof, University of Utah) and Sergei Izmalkov (Assoc. Prof, New Economic School in Moscow) on how to improve governance in the Arctic region. Due in part to melting ice and demand for the region's resources - including fisheries, natural gas, and oil - policy makers are interested in how to improve policy intervention among competing stakeholders in this remote region. The paper summarizes and applies practical insights from the game theory literature and argues that, among other things, the Arctic Council should take a more active governing role in order to alleviate potential conflicts and seek more sustainable outcomes. A key issue is how to develop effective environmental regulation. Read abstract and full .pdf here.
